Anna Kournikova's Stalker Told to Stay Away

Anna Kournikova's Stalker Told to Stay Away

A homeless man accused of stalking Anna Kournikova has been ordered to stay at least 1,000 feet from the Russian tennis star, if he ever gets out if jail. 40-year-old William Lepeska, who has a history of mental illness and is being held at the psychiatric unit of a Miami jail, is charged of stalking the famous blonde after he allegedly swam naked toward her $5 million Miami Beach estate last month. The accused was arrested when he got onto the pool deck at the wrong house and started shouting, “Anna! Save me!”, reported AP.

“I was absolutely shocked and fearful, and I was very much concerned for my safety. It was very frightening and scary just knowing there is someone out there who’s obsessive," said Kournikova at a pre-trail hearing.

The 23-year-old Russian athlete and model sought a civil restraining order, claiming Lepeska bombarded her with sexually explicit letters and e-mails.

In one letter, Lepeska, who has "Anna" tattooed on his right bicep and once followed Kournikova across America to Los Angeles, where she was making a charity appearance, explained that if they "were lovers we would have no need for other people, food or water," according to court papers.

"I thought Anna possibly had some sincere regard for me," he said. "I had all sorts of delusional assumptions about Anna."

Lepeska, who represented himself, told the court he had previously been obsessed with Mel B of the Spice Girls for five years, "but finally I said the heck with her, moving on to greener pastures".

The man faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted of two counts of battery on police officers, resisting arrest and burglary. He also has a history of previous imprisonment for stabbing a man who was sleeping in a university student union coffee house and telling police he was "a slave to an evil that he could not escape" in 1995.

Frightened Kournikova said she had to hire bodyguards for the first time and add security at her home. The star was previously approached by a female stalker during a practice session in 2002, but the woman was intercepted by security guards.
