Anna Nicole Smith: sexy, tragic blonde Model who liked to compare herself to Marilyn Monroe

Anna Nicole Smith: sexy, tragic blonde Model who liked to compare herself to Marilyn Monroe

One-time top "Playboy" Model Anna Nicole Smith dies at 39; she had been unresponsive and was rushed to hospital… In the meantime, The former lover of Anna Nicole Smith, who claims he is the father of her five-month-old baby, planned to file a paternity challenge in court and wanted a DNA test. Last week the husband of actress Zsa Zsa Gabor, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, bizarrely announced that he might be her father…

Anna Nicole's fridge... Onlookers have been going nuts over TMZ's exclusive photo of the contents of Anna Nicole Smith's fridge - Slim Fast and methadone. First of all, this was a photo of her fridge in the Bahamas, not at the hotel where she died. Second, just because it was in her fridge, doesn't mean it was her Slim Fast. Safe to say, she's not the first celeb that publicly endorsed a product but privately didn't use it. Still, she makes Charlize Theron look like a promotional role model!

People have been really hard pressed to describe what exactly Anna Nicole Smith was: actress, pop culture icon? Fashion and style model? Reality star? Wife of super billionaire and subsequently an extremely rich widow by chance? "I don't know exactly what she did," said Joy Behar, host of talk show The View on ABC. And considering the reasons why we watched Anna Nicole over the years, she pronounced two words: dysfunction and beauty. "No question, she was beautiful," said Behar, "We know people like to watch dysfunction. But beauty gives you something extra to look at. Dysfunction and beauty: Now that's something to watch."
Her strange life seemed to veer from one outsized struggle to another. She struggled famously with her weight and with her family. She sometimes even struggled to speak without slurring. She had a TV show that could be so embarrassing you'd want to watch it with dark sunglasses on. Much more tragically, she lost her 20-year-old son. Five months ago she had a baby daughter and now two men claim to be the father. In other words, she was a perfect pop culture icon.
By contrast, another famous creature of Internet celebrity, the chic-er, more sophisticated and chillier Paris Hilton, has much less to fascinate us, grainy sex video notwithstanding. It's hard to feel sorry for her.

"With Anna Nicole, she was pathetic but at the same time you thought, 'Gosh, if I could just scoop you up and fix things, it would be OK,'" said Jerry Herron, a professor of American culture at Wayne State University. "You wouldn't want to scoop up Paris Hilton.'"
"Anna Nicole was," Herron noted, "in both her actions and her physical being, such an over-exaggerated version of what we both lust for and loathe in our society. Bombshell blonde? Family feuds? Lots and lots of money? Weight troubles? Obscene self-revelations on TV? She had it all."

The compelling mix of beauty and vulnerability is just one quality that has led to comparisons with Marilyn Monroe, another sexy, tragic blonde who Smith liked to compare herself to. The comparison is tempting, but the difference is monumental.
"Marilyn Monroe was an artist, a real performer, able to evoke in audiences a real empathy and a passion," said Richard Walter, a film professor at UCLA. "There is NO comparison." And yet he sees one strong point in common: the simple beginnings, the climb from total obscurity to fame.
"She came from humble origins and achieved celebrity and wealth, one way or another," Walter said. "And that is an American story."
For celebrity editor Janice Min of US Weekly, it's the element of perseverance that stands out in Smith's tale, which she sees as "almost this perverse Hollywood Horatio Alger story."
"She fought against so many obstacles — poverty. Teen pregnancy. A bad home life." And of course, ridicule. "But she persisted, where others would have shrunk away out of humiliation and shame." It might have made her look pathetic. But it also made it exceedingly hard to look away.

The former lover of Anna Nicole Smith who claims he is the father of her five-month-old baby has broken his silence on her death - as yet another man came forward to suggest he could be the parent, says once again London's Metro.
Larry Birkhead said it was his efforts to "save" the one-time Playboy model from the ravages of drugs that led her to shun him, even after the pair had planned meticulously for daughter Dannielynn's birth.
He is now engaged in a bitter paternity battle with Smith's companion Howard Stern, who is named on the baby's birth certificate as her father, London's Metro reminds.
Stern, also spoke publicly about his partners death on ET show in America, breaking downing in tears, saying he hoped Smith had joined her son Daniel.
Meanwhile, Smith's former bodyguard Alexander Denk claimed he had a passionate two-year affair with her.
"She always told me she wanted to have her kids with me," he told TV show Extra, adding there was "always a possibility" he had fathered her child.
Three days after Dannielynn was born, Smith's 20-year-old son Daniel died in the Bahamas hospital where he was visiting his mother, of a suspected fatal interaction between prescription drugs he had taken.

Birkhead, 34, told the New York Daily News: "I am sorry that I couldn't save them, I tried. "I watched over her to make sure she was safe, and once I was basically pushed to the side ... I had no control over what she did or anyone else around her did."
A Birkhead family source told the newspaper the freelance photographer gave Smith an ultimatum after she told him she was pregnant with his child.
"He told her, 'If you do not stop your lifestyle, now that you're pregnant with my baby, I will go for custody'," the source said. "That's when she ran away."
The source added that after the couple broke up early in the summer, Birkhead was told Smith had gone to a rehab facility.
Stern's sister said Smith had a temperature of 105F (40.5C) shortly before she died after being found unreponsive in a Florida hotel room last Thursday.
A nurse was "icing her down" earlier that day, Bonnie Stern said.
Her brother left her sleeping when he went out and got a call two hours later to tell him that she had been found unresponsive.
Denk said Smith was on medication for life-threatening seizures, although he did not believe drugs were to blame for her sudden death.
Last week a medical examiner said an initial autopsy had proved inconclusive. "I think she was exhausted," Denk said. Birkhead said seeing the first ultrasound of Dannielynn with Smith was one of the happiest moments of his life, and he said they shopped for baby clothes.
"She kept showing me this hope chest with all this stuff she collected over the years for a baby girl," he told the News.
"I cooked for her, helped her when she was sick and took care of her."

Dannielynn could stand to inherit millions if her mother's legal battle over the estate of her 90-year-old oil tycoon husband J Howard Marshall is resolved in her favour.

Last week the husband of actress Zsa Zsa Gabor, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, bizarrely announced that he might be her father.
Yesterday he said he planned to file a paternity challenge in court and wanted a DNA test.
