Beyonce Knowles has signed her first licensing agreement to produce her own fashion line. The brand of apparel for young women, House of Dereon, is named after Beyonce’s seamstress grandmother Agnes Dereon. The range of ready-to ear, sportswear, denim and items that Beyoncé says she would wear "either on or off the red carpet" will be produced by the Tarrant Apparel Group, manufacturer of garments for the American Rag, Cie and Gear 7, and is scheduled for launch in specialty stores worldwide by the Holiday 2005 season.
"[It'll be a] mix of vintage things and contemporary things...fur with denim, classic with street," Beyonce told the Associated Press. "I have pretty broad taste. I've been all over the world--thank God I've had the chance to do that."
According to the singer’s mother Tina Knowles, who along with Beyonce formed Beyond Productions and helps to manage the development and marketing of House of Dereon, the line will feature a lot of "beading and detailing".
"I think my mother and I both have a good idea of what people who are fashionable like," Beyonce said. "I love clothes from my grandmother's generation, my mother's generation and contemporary stuff."
As reported New York Post, the new fashion line of the sexy 23-year-old will target women aged 18 to 28 and priced slightly below labels like Theory, Elie Tahari and BCBGMaxAzria.
But the versatile star doesn’t intend to stop there and plans to soon expand her fashion business with collections of outerwear, shoes, accessories, jewelry and fragrances. Well, at least she already has some experience with fragrances to start with, having signed on to be the face of Tommy Hilfiger’s “True Star” perfume.
