Fashion shutterbug and filmmaker David LaChapelle was taken into custody on suspicion of disturbing the peace during the Sundance Film Festival opening party, where he presented his first full-length motion picture Rize. The 36-year-old photographer, whose portfolio includes shots of a range of A-list stars, was leaving the Marquee Club on Main Street, together with the Hilton sisters Paris and Nicky and Pamela Anderson, when the cops arrested him.
According to the witnesses, the police just tried to control the wild crowd of nearly 100 people and made a mistake, thinking the photographer was one of the fans who were there to catch a glimpse of celebrities.
As reported New York Post, LaChapelle was released from jail a few hours later, after posting bail of $280.
But this accident didn’t prevent the independent distributor, Lion's Gate Film, to shell out $1 million to acquire the rights on photographer’s documentary, featuring south-central Los Angeles urban dance called “krumping”, in which youths dance dressed as clowns.
