British rock star Pete Doherty has vowed to quit drugs for the sake of his love for supermodel girlfriend Kate Moss and his mother and has begun his treatment for heroin and crack cocaine addiction.
"I am determined to kick the habit for good for the sake of my relationship with her. I'm determined to do it for Kate and my mum, the two women I love," he told The Sun.
The ex-Libertines frontman checked into a drug rehabilitation center on Tuesday hours after being released from London’s Pentonville Prison where he spent a total of six nights being charged with blackmail and robbery.
25-year-old Doherty confessed he thought he was "going to die" in the “vomit-filled cell” he shared with murderers and pedophiles, but says he made it because of Moss. "I felt like crying but the thought of Kate on the outside kept me going.”
Pete has been released after his record company produced the bail of 150 000 pounds ($278,400), on condition that he attends rehab. After his jail experience, which Doherty described as “hell on earth”, the first people he called were Kate and his mother.
“Pete was close to tears on the phone,” said a source.
“But Kate offered him support and urged him to stick with the programme. He vowed to carry on for the sake of those he loves — Kate, his family and his fans.”
