Donatella Versace intends to auction off some of her personal art collection. The auction of sculptures, paintings and furniture is planned for April 7 and May 7 in Milan, reported Italian media.
Though the organizers of the event, the Porro C Art consulting firm, did not give out any information, they called it an important rendez-vous for the art market.
As reported an Italian source, the possessions planned to go under the hammer were collected by Donatellas brother Gianni over 30 years but then inherited by her, along with her brother Sandro, after Giannis slaying in 1997. Some may relate Donatellas auction to the recent cash-flow problems of the Versace group that forced it to sell off a building in Manhattan. But the companys spokesman has stressed that items prepared for sale are personal possessions of Donatella, rather than those of the whole Versace family.
The sale of the building was a business decision. The auction sale is a private matter concerning just Donatella. The company is doing well, he said, according to AFP.
