“Special Edition: Fashion Photography from the Rhoades Collection” will be presented by the Savannah College of Art and Design free of charge through July 30 at the Earle W. Newton Center for British-American Studies in Atlanta.

The exhibition features over 60 photos by 35 renowned photographers, donated by Shirrel Rhoades, an executive with Reader’s Digest Association, and also includes selections from 2001, 2003 and 2005 donations.

The collection presented by the Savannah College of Art and Design comprises a 1918 Vogue magazine photo by Baron de Meyer with the influence of Impressionism, a piece of art by British photographer, portraitist and costume and set designer Sir Cecil Beaton which depicts a scene of modern dancers, an image of models posed before a Matisse background, and one of Bert Stern’s sophisticated images of Marilyn Monroe from the sitting she gave to Vogue magazine in June 1962, six weeks before her death. The most influential names of fashion photography from the 1930s through the 50s, including Louise Dahl-Wolfe, Horst P. Horst, Helmut Newton and Irving Penn, are presented by photographs taken from Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Vibe magazines, among other publications, reports The Times. 

The second part of the century, marked by the rise of fashion photography in the 60s, is represented by photographs with Veruschka, Lauren Hutton, Brooke Shields and several “supermodels” from the 90s. There are also some images of celebrities, such as Cher by Richard Avedon, Julio Iglesias by Herb Ritts and Linda Ronstadt by Annie Leibovitz.

The 80s photos of Karl Lagerfeld and the works of Bruce Weber, Craig McDean and Dana Lixenberg are also on view.
