Last Monday, Gap Inc. announced some major changes in the company. Cynthia Harriss, previously president of Gap outlet division, has been appointed the new president on the Gap Brand division, giving her place to Diane Neal who had been senior vice president of merchandising for the outlet division.
“Through her 30 years of retail experience, Cynthia has demonstrated that she is a strong operator and merchant, as well as an exceptional leader with a track record of inspiring and developing great teams,” Gap Inc. president and chief executive Paul Pressler said in a statement, according to WWD.
Meanwhile, Old Navy is currently relocating its New York product development team to Gap's San Francisco headquarters.
“It’s not about decreasing the head count, it’s more about fostering creativity and collaboration,” said the Gap spokesman, stressing the importance of Old Navy’s design team being closer to the senior staff of the company.
Harriss will take up her new duties on May 2, which will include overseeing all aspects of the Gap brand in North America.
The position had been vacant since last September. It was last taken by Gary Muto, who was reassigned as president for an upcoming yet-to-be-named division targeting consumers 35 years of age and older.
Prior to joining Gap, Harriss worked as the president of the Disneyland Resort division of The Walt Disney Co. and as senior vice president of stores for The Disney Store, and spent 19 years with Paul Harris Stores.
Neal, 48, will also report to Pressler and serve on the executive leadership team. She became a member of the Gap team in October 2004 from Mervyn’s, where she was president for three years. Earlier, she was an executive at Target Corp.
