Swedish retail giant Hennes & Mauritz will unveil its fall collection in New York's Central Park tonight, April 20. The event will be held in a 20,000-square-feet and four stories tall tent, placed in the middle of the world's most famous park, and will comprise a cocktail hour, a 150-model runway show, a sit-down picnic-style dinner for 750 guests and live performance by Kanye West, John Legend and Miri Ben-Ari.
H&M's head designer Margareta van den Bosch, who manages more than 100 designers, gave WWD a preview of the label's latest collection which consists of three basic trends: rustic, minimal and "Barrococo", a mix of the Baroque and Rococo periods.
The Rustic range was presented with colorful printed and embroidered tweeds, coarse cottons and knits.“Rustic has different influences,” said Bosch. “It could be European folkloristic or American handcrafted looks.”
The minimal group featured the basic colors like white, black, gray and violet.
Among the Barrococo-styled outfits were velvet and brocade dresses, coats, corsets and even bloomers. The collection also included lingerie with corsets, undies and sheer knits.
“I like them all. And there’s something for everyone,” Bosch says of the trends.
“We listen to the customers in each country. But you also have to put out a line that is still H&M no matter where it is.”
