International supermodel-turned-photographer Helena Christensen is to make a two-day photo shoot for Australian small town of Leichhardt. By inviting Christensen, Liechardts Chamber of Commerce hopes to boost local businesses.
Helena Christensen, who has graced the biggest runways in the world and shot the ad campaign for Danish beer company Carlsberg, was invited to Sydney to take pictures of Norton Street, Leichhardt, for a promotional campaign for the area.
The lucrative contract with Leichhardt Chamber of Commerce will reportedly bring $110,000 for the model’s two-day-work.
"She will have full artistic licence and, based on what she has done before, we expect her to be behind the lens, not in front of it," The Sunday Telegraph quoted the Leichhardt Chamber of Commerce president Gary Spiteri as saying.
But some of the councillors do not agree with the sum of the payment, saying it’s too high.
"It wasn't my idea to get a supermodel to take the photographs," Councillor Murphy said. "We could have got a local photographer, but we wouldn't get the media attention."
"It's risky because we provide a total of $80,000, and every single cent is going to be spent in four days and if it doesn't work that is two years of money wasted in four days," Councillor Jamie Parker, who voted against the plan, said.
The Danish supermodel will spend four days in Sydney this November to realize the shooting.
