The Prada group announced yesterday that designer Helmut Lang has resigned from a position of a creative director of his namesake company. According to Women s Wear Daily, increasing tensions between Lang and Prada s chief Patrizio Bertelli, who couldn t reach an agreement as to the strategic direction of Lang s business, were reason for his departure.
The company has revealed in a statement that the Lang collections will now be produced by the creative team that created the Helmut Lang men s collection currently shown in Paris.
Prada CEO Patrizio Bertelli said Austrian-born Lang built a brand with a strong identity and a unique positioning in the fashion world.
We will build on this and we will move quickly to provide the appropriate support to the company and develop the brand's potential, he told Associated Press.
This is the second major designer to depart from Prada in the recent months, following the resignation of Jil Sander from her brand in November. Patrizio Bertelli, who will arrive at Helmut Lang New York office today will now take over the brand and decide upon reorganizations. As reported the Wall Street Journal, Bertelli might appoint a temporary substitute to Lang.
