First ever cross-cultural fitness star in the US Sarina Jain gained attention for combining a vigorous cardiovascular workout with the high-energy moves of Bhangra, the Indian dance that is the trademark of thousands of Bollywood films.
 
 
Now she is looking to take that workout to a new generation with her fifth DVD/video, "Masala Bhangra Workout Volume 5 ... For Kids," a full-body session that aims to be both fun and rigorous, burning more than 500 calories.

"My mission is to inspire kids to stay physically and mentally active on a daily basis, grow healthy and teach them a little bit of my culture at the same time, says Jain, who hosts her own segment on Discovery Channel's Fit TV.

Masala means spicy in Hindi, and Bhangra is a traditional celebratory dance from India's Punjab region that features sensuous, rhythmic movements to the beat of the dhol drum. The fusion of the two describes Jain's Masala Bhangra Workout -- a cardiovascular explosion that fuses high-energy Bhangra dance moves.

"People fall in love with the beat of Bhangra," Jain said, "The music combined with its sensuous, vigorous movements recreates the excitement that an occasion is being celebrated."

Jain introduced her Masala Bhangra-style fitness routine to the U.S. with her first workout tape in 1999, and has since directed and produced a total of five workouts in her Masala Bhangra Workout DVDs. "People have so much fun; they don't realize they are getting an awesome cardiovascular and muscle- strengthening workout," she says.

Among them is the famous international supermodel, Saira Mohan, who spends time with her son doing the Masala Bhangra Workout. "We've watched it like 50 times," Mohan says. "My son loves it and I totally work up a sweat trying to keep up. It's very effective."

Jain has been a certified fitness instructor for 16+ years teaching a range of classes, including step, kickboxing, cycling, total body conditioning, high/low impact aerobics, cardio salsa and much more. She has been recognized as the "Indian Jane Fonda", for being the first South Asian fitness icon to introduce Indian dance to fitness enthusiasts worldwide!
