Somalian Supermodel Iman, is reported to have ended her cooperation with LVHM-owned De Beers diamond company over the conflict of ethics. Iman will no longer be the spokesmodel for the company. Her contract, which has expired last month, has not been prolonged by either one of the sides. The British non-government organization Survival International says it was concern that the corporation is exploiting the rights of the Bushmen of Botswana, that prompted the supermodel, wife of singer David Bowie, to end her cooperation with De Bears.
According to the charges by the human rights groups, De Beers, which controls Botswana`s diamond mining in a joint venture with the government, has led to the decision to evict the Bushman from their ancestral land in order to have full claims to the deposits.
De Bears claims that the end of their cooperation with the model has nothing to do with Survival International group. Iman has merely decided on other ventures, the company`s spokesperson says.
