Shalom Harlow

Shalom Harlow

She was just 15 years old when discovered by Ann Sutherland at the Canadian National Exhibition. Shalom Harlow is one of Sutherland Models most notable success stories.

In 1990, Shalom made her debut in the Annual Showcase for Sutherland Models, after completing the modeling course in Sutherland's school division. It was here that people took notice of her, and soon she appeared on her very first magazine cover for Toronto Life Fashion, Images Magazine, Wedding Bells and Flare Magazine.

By the Spring of 1991 she was off to New York to shoot wedding gowns for Dior, and in the Fall of that same year, Shalom flew to Paris for the first of many runway shows, which would include such notable labels as Chloe, Comme des Garcon and Martine Sitbon. It was apparent to many that this was just the beginning of her great career as an international model.

By the Spring of 1992, Shalom's career was in full gear. It was difficult not to pick up Italian, British, German, French, or American Vogue and not see her gracing the pages. In addition to these magazines, she could also be found in Harper's Bazaar and Allure -- an impressive list of clients. Shalom's career was really taking off, and she was soon earning about $5000 (U.S.) per day.

At this point, traveling became an even larger part of Shalom's life. Working in such great cities as Milan, London, New York and Paris, allowed her to see parts of the world some people would only ever dream of.

In 1993, her client base grew to include a perfume campaign for Halston, as well as campaigns for DKNY, Ralph Lauren, and L.A. Gear. The following year had her working on campaigns for Clinique, Anne Klein, Shiseido, Elizabeth Arden, Max Mara, and Isaac Mizrahi. The list of shows that she appeared in would also continue to grow and include many top designers. Shalom, once the shy and awkward girl, had now become the self-confident and successful model many had glimpsed in the Showcase years before.

By the Fall of 1994, Shalom appeared in a guest spot for Versace's menswear show, worth $30 000 (U.S.), while a one day shoot for designer Jil Sander's ad campaign earned her $75 000 (U.S). Her profile as a model at this point was more than impressive, and her salary began to reflect her status as one of the top models in the business.

The Spring of 1995, Shalom landed a cover of Cosmopolitan magazine -- a great measure of a model's success. Soon after, she appeared in a major campaign for 2 years as the CoCo Chanel girl for an undisclosed amount of money, and it was then that she established herself as a "Supermodel" -- a status which then enabled her to command a day rate of $25 000 (U.S.).

Shalom has continued her career as a model but has also looked into other venues in which to exercise her skills and talent. While she continued to appear on the covers of Mademoiselle, Allure, Harper's Bazaar, and Vogue magazine during the Spring of 1996, she also began appearing as the co-host of MTV's "House of Style" with Amber Valetta -- a job once held by another well known Supermodel, Cindy Crawford.

In 1998, Shalom made her first feature film debut by appearing in the hit movie "In and Out" with Matt Dillon, Tom Selleck, and Kevin Kline. The film received good reviews and since then she has not looked back.

In 1999 Shalom starred in another feature film and juggled a grueling modeling schedule as well. She was featured in the British Vogue Millennium issue as one of the most unforgettable faces of the century!
