Jennifer Lopez cancelled all promotional appearances in Europe for her latest movie and upcoming album release due to sickness. The actress and singer had been scheduled to attend the UK premiere of her new movie Shall We Dance?, held to aid the tsunami victims, with co-stars Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon, but she called off the trip at the last minute.
Though the star’s publicist denied Lopez’ illness was serious, she was still advised not to fly. "At the advice of my doctors, I am unable to travel," Lopez said in a statement released by Buena Vista International.
"Her ears are clogged. They told her not to fly. That's all. And as soon as we can, we're going to reschedule," spokeswoman Michele Schweitzer told Reuters.
The film's director Peter Chelsom said he was disappointed that Lopez failed to attend the event, which attracted thousands of spectators to London's Leicester Square.
"It's a shame. I know it's true that she's not well because she has also cancelled her promotional tour. I've heard she has swollen glands," BBC News cited Chelsom as saying.
"Please accept my sincerest apologies as I have to remain in Los Angeles," Lopez, 35, said in the statement. "I'm so proud of Shall We Dance? and was looking forward to visiting London."
"This film was a labour of love for me, and I want to thank everyone involved in bringing it to you, from the cast, to the film director, to the crew."
The Latina celebrity was also expected to make TV appearances in England and Germany to promote her new album, Rebirth, due out in the United States on March 1. Lopez’ spokesperson denied any erroneous repots about the singer’s cancellation of her fictitious “European album tour” and said no such tour had been planned.
According to Britain’s Hello magazine, versatile Lopez is set to appear in Pepsi ads in Europe, along with singer Beyoncé and soccer star David Beckham, which will reportedly premiere this month in Madrid.
