Nicole Kidman’s latest movie, The Interpreter, will lead off the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on April 19. In this Sydney Pollack's thriller, the first ever film to be shot inside the United Nations headquarters, 37-year-old Kidman plays a UN translator Silvia Broome who overhears an assassination plot.

The festival will run for 13 days and feature over 250 films, including 60 world premieres, eight international premieres and 34 North American premieres.

The Tribeca Film Festival, founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff as a response to the attacks on the World Trade Center, is to promote New York City as the world's independent film capital and to foster the economic and cultural revitalization of Lower Manhattan through an annual celebration of film, music and culture.

"Each year, the support we receive for this festival from our neighborhood and from the global film community grows," De Niro said in a statement, according to Reuters.

Meanwhile, the Oscar-winning actress is in negotiations to star in Fur as Diane Arbus, one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century, and is also trying herself as a producer, preparing a screen adaptation of Meghan Daum’s novel The Quality of Life Report in collaboration with New York production company Blueprint Films.

The Hollywood diva, who avoids the usual celebrity hustle, actually dislikes shopping and requires designers send their garments to her home for her to browse. Her fellow actress Chloe Sevigny says, according to Contactmusic.com: "I know for a fact she is the best client of the decade in “Resurrection” (Los Angeles designer shop) but has never been to the store.

"She's sent racks of stuff, picks what she likes and puts it on her credit card."
