Yea, Lakme Fashion Week is leaving few stones unturned for its upcoming spring-summer bash in Mumbai, India. It is raring to flaunt two international designers who will showcase their collection on the Indian ramp for the first time within the fortnight.
Fédération Française du Prêt à Porter Féminin (French Federation of Women’s Ready-to-Wear), along with Lakme and IMG, has developed an exchange programme as per which two Indian designers will also be presented with an opportunity to showcase their collection at Prêt à Porter, Paris. As part of the programme, upcoming designer Nathalie Garcon and fashion house, Leonard, founded by Daniel Tribouillard in 1958, will be in Mumbai during the Week. While Garcon is fast gaining reputation as a nifty stylist, Leonard already has 125 exclusive boutiques with a strong presence in Japan.
“We want to establish LFW as a forum for global fashion exchange. So we are looking to create interactive opportunities with designers from across the world,” said Anil Chopra, VP, Lakme. In fact, designers Narendra Kumar, Nandita Mahtani and Sonam Dubal, who participated at the LFW, showcased their collections at the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. The crowning glory was, of course, this year’s finale designate Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who received rave reviews for his collection at the Olympus Fashion Week in New York.
Chopra also plans to actively promote menswear. “The fashion industry does not represent men at all. So we are looking to promote it through various programmes, including perhaps a day dedicated to men’s fashion,” says Chopra. But the question is, with so much on offer, won’t the audience have an overdose of the beautiful life?
