Danish Consumer Council has filed a lawsuit against Famous French cosmetics empire LOreal over one of its hair dying products, reports Womens Wear Daily.
The problem occurred with a Danish lady who claims to have developed eczema, serious skin illness, and itching of the scalp after coloring her hair with L’Oreal Excellence Creme. She complained about that to the Consumer’s Council.
The spokesman of the French company refused to comment on the situation.
It’s not the first time L’Oreal gets complaints from its customers - over 35 cases were registered only in Denmark. All of them were connected with the hair coloring products.
The L’Oreal spokesman said that “customer safety remains the number-one priority” for the company, and that all its hair color products correspond to the European Union’s strict requirements on these items. The Council, however, wants these requirements to be tightened. They asked the European Union to forbid using dangerous substances in hair-dye products. “These products contain a vast number of different chemical substances, many of which are not regulated, that is, their effects on human beings have been far from clarified,” - said Sonny Kristoffersen, the council’s senior legal adviser for consumers’ test cases. On her opinion products should include warnings about dangerous substances.
The spokesman at L’Oreal replied that the company started placing warnings on the packaging of its hair dyes last year, and all the products have inside instruction leaflets as well.
