Nearly 6,300 fans of Nelly attended the hip-hop star's concert at Arkansas State University on Saturday, despite calls for a boycott by local ministers.
Earlier this month, a group of 20 Jonesboro church minsters had complained that Nelly's lyrics refer to sex, drugs and violence and urged young people not to purchase tickets and to protest the singer's March 12th performance.
We feel that the lyrics of 'gangsta rappers' are detrimental to society at large, but more specifically to the development of young people," said the Reverend Adrian Rodgers of the Fullness of Joy Church of Jonesboro.
However, Jonesboro's youth didn't seem to heed the calls and the crowd drifted into the Convocation Center to hear “vile and filthy”lyrics of the 30-year-old Hot in Herre singer. The concert at the northeastern Arkansas school was part of the multi-platinum rapper's nationwide tour.
