America’s veteran designer Nicole Miller launched her new collection “Nicole” for JCPenny. The range, featuring garments in pastel colors, floral and leopard print, as well as tailored jackets with touches of chiffon and silk, was unveiled at the Four Season restaurant in New York City on Wednesday.
For the runway shows, Miller chose older, well-known models such as Nikki Taylor, Janice Dickinson, Kara Young, Giesel Z., Frederique Van Der Wal, Carol Alt and Carmen Dell’Orefice. 44-year-old supermodel Carol Alt explained that “the baby boomer group is the largest buying power in this country. I am younger than them, but I am the model that they know.”
“I really liked working with these girls. They are professionals and they are women,” said the designer about using mature models in her show. “I think the concept is perfect for this (line)and I think we should use them more.”
Nicole Miller teamed up with JCPenny to create a casual, dressy line, designed for the JCPenny woman who is looking for something in between the higher-priced, exclusive collections and the mass market of ready-to-wear.
“I love JCPenny for picking up her line,” Nikki Taylor told FWD, “the clothes are well made and everybody can wear it.”
“Some pieces are fantastic so I think it’s a start, but I think there is room for her to be more honest with her own style,” added model Frederique.
During the event JCPenny also introduced their campaign for their sponsorship of the 77th annual Academy Awards.
