“Deaths and Entrances” tells about the life of Bronte sisters – the three remarkably talented British 18 century writers. The co-work with de la Renta isn’t the first collaboration of GDC with top designers. Earlier works were connected with the names of Halston and Calvin Klein.
"Re-imagining the original costumes, Oscar de la Renta's talent for dramatic yet human design will draw the 1840's lives of the Bronte sisters through the lens of Graham's 1940's creation of the characters, into beautiful present life," said the MGDC's artistic directors Christine Dakin and Terese Capucilli.
The premiere of the play will host such honorable guests as Melania Trump, Diane von Furstenburg, Vera Wang and Andre Leon Talley. It will run through New York till April 17th.
On April, 10th, just couple of blocks away, the revival of Bizet’s 1863 masterpiece “The Pearl Fishers” has hit New York Opera, featuring the costumes designed by Zandra Rhodes. She reports that it was a great honor for her to make the leap from catwalk show to theater life.
"The reason I adored working on 'The Pearl Fishers' was because I adore the arts," says Rhodes. "The best part about designing for an opera is seeing the whole thing when it is on stage. The combinations of music and color on the stage is a very moving experience - something you can't grasp until you see the end result of all your work."
