Alluring Pamela Anderson, a long-time animal rights activist, will appear on Chinese billboards in a new anti-fur campaign, if the photos get past the censors.
The posters, featuring the slogan Give fur the cold shoulder in English, depicts the former Baywatch star topless with her back to the camera and an arm partly hiding her breast, and an image of falling snow above Chinese characters reading cold shoulders are nothing compared to the cold they feel and please dont wear fur.
After recent complaints of Chinese officials about excessive use of sexual innuendo in advertisement and their announcement of stricter screening rules for television ads, PETAs posters are still to undergo a narrow review by Chinas media regulators.
Depending on the censors, they may be concerned about it, but its very tastefully done, said Jason Baker, a Hong Kong-based spokesman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
We may end up having to crop (the photo) a bit.
Im perfectly happy to bare my skin if it will help save animals skins, said Anderson, as reported online.ie.
According to PETA, China was the origin of 40 percent of all American fur imports in 2000. Singapore is next in line to contemplate the images of the sexy star as the country, increasingly targeted by the fur industry.
