Senior Fashion Show has been held at the Miramar Civic Center in Florida. Models participated in the Parade of Fashions in four categories: activewear, church wear, casual wear and formal wear. Most outfits were donated by Target, some models had their own newly-bought garments though.
95-year-old Jennie Reno picked a blue chiffon floral dress to set off her blue eyes and a pair of black heels with pointed toes and criss-cross straps.
"I'm going to model in two categories. My other outfit is a skirt and a dressy top with crystals," said Reno, who managed to get around fine without her walker most of the time. "Modeling is great. I'm the type who doesn't sit still for a minute."
The models were chosen from the city's Sunset Lakes and Venetian Street Senior centers. "It's really wonderful to see the ladies dressed up and looking beautiful," said social services specialist Kim Morrow, who served as mistress of ceremonies.
The first model in the church wear category was 71-year-old Helen Rolle, who sashayed down the runway in a white suit accented with a vintage 1958 rhinestone pin and a red hat worn at an angle.
"I decided to wear colors with a valentines theme," Rolle told South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "I've modeled before and today I'm representing my church, the Christian Fellowship Baptist Church in Miami."
"This is the first time we've had this event," said Khaye Curry of Hollywood, Miramar's program coordinator. "Every day, I try to brainstorm to think of something new we can do with the seniors. They are so excited and enthusiastic about this."
