New reality TV show The Cut to premiere on CBS on June 9, is aimed to recreate the life story of one of Americas favorite designers Tommy Hilfiger. 16 contestants will take part in the show, inspired by the success of Americas Next Top Model show and Project Runaway, to test their talent, as well as sense of style, business, sales and marketing skills.
The wannabe designers, including a stay-at-home mom from St. Louis, Miss Minnesota, a professional skateboarder, a salesman from Chicago, a San Francisco student, a creative director from New Orleans, will live in a Soho loft, faced with various assignments, competing for the once in a life time chance to become famous and successful designers.
"I have been doing my Tommy Hilfiger collection for 20 years now. This is something different for me, but actually doing the same thing I do every day. I mentor, I judge, and I guide a team of designers and creative people who develop products for the Tommy Hilfiger company globally," the designer was quoted by British Vogue as saying.
The prize for the winner is a $250,000-a-year job designing a Hilfiger collection that will be sold in stores and a chance to go on working with Hilfiger in the future.
"I think the public really doesn't understand what goes on behind the scenes in the fashion business," said Hilfiger. They think it's all glamour, but building a global fashion brand is similar to building any kind of big brand."
