The Supreme Court of Ukraine has overruled all the objections by pro-Russian Prime Minister Victor Yanukovich and officially announced pro-Western opposition leader Victor Yuschenko the winner of the contested presidential elections in Ukraine. The inauguration date has been scheduled by Ukraines parliament for 23 January 2005.
The inaugural dress for the country’s First Lady Katherine Chumachenko is made by Ukrainian fashion designer whose name is not disclosed. According to Oksana Karavanska, one of Chumachenko’s favorite designers, the first lady has recently ordered a whole range of garments from her but the inauguration gown is being created by some other designer as Karavanska couldn’t make it in time for the special date. Karavanska also talked about Chumachenko’s penchant for the 50’s and 60’s fashion and the styles of Kennedy and Chanel. One of her latest requests was presence of the traditional Ukrainian elements, such as embroidery or coloring, in her outfits.
Renowned Ukrainian designer Lilia Pustovit has refused to answer the question about her involvement in preparation of the wardrobe for Yuschenko’s wife.
“I won’t talk about it,” she told Ukrainian daily newspaper Segodnya.
“I know who is making the dress. But I also know that Yuschenko’s press service asked to keep all the details secret. It will be a nice surprise.”
Russian fashion designer Valentin Yudashkin has reportedly proposed his services to Chumachenko free of charge, but Ukraine’s first lady declined the offer. “It’s very important for her that the dress be made by a native Ukrainian fashion designer,” said a source.
