The finals of American Idol are approaching and last week a dozen of finalists was announced, hailing the start of the most interesting part of the All-American talent search.
But the fans of Mario Vasquez are set for great disappointment. The only singer who was likely to take the grand prize has left the show. The favorite of the public, Vasquez appeared on Monday morning on the screen in "Good Day New York," on New York's FOX 5, and threw light on his decision.
In his interview the young man with a bright smile mentioned that he decided to leave the American Idol contest was some «family reasons», MTV.com reports.
" 'American Idol' was only positive. They were only wonderful to me, from the beginning through the middle, to the end," he said. "It had nothing to do with the contract or anything at all. I just needed to take care of some things in my life that needed to be focused on."
"I know I disappointed many fans, but it's all for the best, it really is, and I hope they know and understand and respect my privacy with that as well." He also added that all the competitors became very close to each other and made good friends.
The 27-year-old Bronx-born Vasquez will be replaced in further episodes by Nikko Smith, the son of baseball star Ozzie Smith. Nikko, a strong R&B singer, was among the contestants voted out during last week's last semi-final round.
