As early as last November, Meriam Webster Dictionary named “blog” the word of the year. Blog, short for “weblog”, is defined as “a Web site that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer”. According to the dictionary “blog” was the most used new word of 2004.

Merriam-Webster editors devote two hours a day to reading a cross section of newly published books, newspapers, magazines and electronic publications to detect new words and monitor which words people use most often and how they use them. Any word of interest is marked, as well as surrounding context that offers insight into its form and use.
