Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles who surprised the Britons yesterday by announcing their engagement, have set their marriage date as April 8th. While the announcement gave rise to controversy as many are unforgiving of the couple after Princess Diana’s death, the fashionistas are already speculating on what the bride-to-be will wear for the wedding ceremony.
As reports CNN/Money, London bookmakers are already taking bets on whether Parker Bowles will wear a gown, a dress or a suit, and in what color. Ladbrokes was offering 1-5 odds it would be a dress, in some creamy hue. Others suggest she will wear hot pink.
London Daily Telegraph social columnist and Vanity Fair writer Victoria Mather says her sources tell her that Camilla won’t be wearing white, which is “lucky”, for, as Mather commented on The Early Show. “She'd look like one of those great big bits of ice that that have just fallen off the Antarctic. Having one of those coming down the aisle wouldn't be a pretty sight." She added: "But most of the English aristocracy look like good-looking horses. It's fine.”
So far, the sense of style of Camilla, “Princess Unpopular,” has been a subject of irony:
"There's a danger she could look like the mother of the bride. A discreet set of posies would also help set her apart so she doesn't look like a guest," editor of Brides magazine Liz Savage told Sydney Morning Herald.
"Charles and Camilla don't sell magazines anymore. They are middle-aged and boring-looking," royal correspondent Judy Wade told Hello! magazine.
The royal engagement, meanwhile, has been corroborated with a platinum engagement ring, a royal family heirloom, that Prince Charles had given Camilla Parker Bowles. The impressive piece of jewelry contains a square-cut central diamond with three diamond baguettes on either side.
