Kung Fu movie star Jackie Chan wants to become a lifestyle guru for his fans. Although they already own copies of his "Rush Hour" and "Shanghai Noon," he also wants to dress them head to toe and expand his empire to include "total lifestyle branding."
Jackie has made his first foray into business about 20 years ago, but it didn’t end successfully.
"I thought since I could make movies, I tried business on my own. I didn't know how to calculate, how much things I bought cost, how much a month's rent cost ... I lost several million, then millions again," he told, according to chinadaily.com.
Now, the movie star owns his "Jackie's Kitchen" restaurants, a sushi eatery chain, "Jackie Chan signature club" gyms, founded together with the California Fitness gym chain, and the latest line of chocolates and nutritional oatcakes for the health conscious.
And several days ago his clothing label celebrated its third anniversary. Chan revealed to reporters that 20 years ago he has lost lots of money, because he did not have the know-how, but now he has a professional businessmen Bon Bg, as an executive, who helps to do all the nitty-gritty work. The businessman mentioned that the "Shanghai Knights" star’s aim is also "total lifestyle branding" and he hopes to expand into furniture and kitchen ware.
"For me the greatest source of income is still movies. Nothing — stocks, financial speculation, real estate speculation or businesses — makes more money for me than making movies," the action star told a news conference this week, pointing on that fact that he is not going to quit filming in favour of another business cells.
"I feel guilty about that money ... But the money I make from jumping from the second floor, this hard-earned, blood-and-sweat money ... I'll save for myself," he said.
But due to his popularity as a great movie fighter he might even stop filming and still earn money with his famous name. "This proves I succeeded in Hollywood," he said.
