Pop singer Jessica Simpson, who is gradually displacing her contender Britney Spears from the scene, has signed a $10 million licensing deal with Andrew Sports Club to develop her own fashion line, as reported the New York Daily News.
Sports Club CEO Andrew Kirpalani said his company would develop a line of kids clothing, dresses, hats, watches, jewelry and underwear under JS Brand Marketing. The items will be sold under the Jessica Simpson and Sweet Kisses brand names in fine stores like Federated, Sears and JCPenney starting next years back-to-school shopping season. The young star also plans to introduce the garments on the third season of her hit MTV reality show, Newlyweds.
As observed Kaplani, who flew to California to meet with the Simpson family, both Jessica and her mother intend to get involved with designing for the line, which will feature casual clothes with undertones of the celebritys preferred styles.
Sports Club CEO also said his company was in negotiations with Reebok to develop a line of Jessica Simpson shoes.
24-year-old singer and reality TV star already has her own cosmetic line Dessert Beauty with which she has been having trouble lately. Last month, California-based company Cosmojet has filed a law suit against Simpson, claiming the singers company has failed to pay the full $952,000 it owed for the produced products for the Dessert line.
According to Cosmojets suit, lack of payment caused irreparable harm to the companys cash flow and it is seeking funds in the amount of $189,077.71, plus interest and court fees.
Through her publicist Simpson released a statement, saying:
Jessica Simpson is a spokesperson for Dessert products and has no involvement in the day-to-day operation of the companys business. Ms. Simpson has no knowledge whether Cosmojets claim has any basis, nor does she have any responsibility for the companys accounting and billing procedures or payment obligations, reported E!Online.
Ms. Simpson does intend to vigorously dispute Cosmojets merciless claims against her and to take legal action against Cosmojet for involving her in this matter.
In addition to her cosmetic and fashion experiments, Simpson is preparing to release both a Christmas CD, ReJoyce The Christmas Album, dedicated to her late grandmother, and a live DVD of her Reality Tour, featuring one of the performances from her successful 2004 nationwide tour. Both will be available in stores on November 23.
