Hundreds of Tokyo fashion-fans gathered last week to greet Karl Lagerfeld, who came to Japan to open the largest Chanel store in the world in the heart of the citys prestigious Ginza district and to host a fist-time ever runway show for his fashion house outside Paris.
The fashion emperor decided to treat the Japanese with something exceptional, which he did, introducing a 10 storey high boutique selling exclusive to this one special store pearl-strewn white tweed jackets, complete with certificate issued by Lagerfeld himself to prove theyre one of a kind.
The designer showed up wearing a long pleated Scottish kilt over tight black jeans. When asked what he thinks of men in skirts Lagerfeld responded:
It depends. It depends on how you carry it. Mademoiselle Chanel borrowed from the men.
