The fashionistas have flocked to Italy this weekend to watch international collections for autumn/winter 2005, as the fashion weeks spree continues in Milan. Pollini, Bottega Veneta, Emporio Armani and Prada are showcasing their collections today; this weeks highlights include Dolce and Gabbanas first collection since their split officially announced this weekend, Jil Sander first collection since she resigned from the house in November, and Christian Lacroixs first show for LVMH-owned Pucci since the company sold his namesake label to US duty-free retailer Falic Group.
Expectations are high for autumn/winter collection by Donatella Versace which will present distinctively new look. The collection - scheduled to be unveiled on Thursday – will feature a new logo and will step back from the raunchy Versace styles of the past.
"I'm not blind," Donatella, who is clearly focused on increasing Versace’s sales, told the British Vogue. "I know that most women don't look like models. We had to start addressing other parts of a woman's life."
There is no danger, however, that the label will lose its provocative sexiness, as we will still see some 12 cm heels and barely-there snakeskin minis in Donatella's collection and, consequently, in the stores.
"It is cool rather than chic," the designer told The Times. "I hate chic. It's such an outdated concept."
"The fashion business is a very different place from when Gianni started the label," she said. "Now it's much more corporate. I've had to learn a lot about business. The funny thing is, I'm enjoying myself more than I have for years."
Other big names showcasing in Milan include Naeem Khan, Alessandra Facchinetti's second collection for Gucci, and Gianfranco Ferre.
