Naomi Campbell along with queen of punk Vivienne Westwood were honored by Mikhail Gorbachev at the first ever Women's World Awards held in Germany last week. Organizers said the event was designed "for women whose unique achievements have contributed to a better, more peaceful and humane society."
Naomi was awarded World Fashion Icon status and Westwood was celebrated for her "innovative, provocative designs that have made her a fashion legend". Also, the honorees included Bianca Jagger, Diane Kruger, Katarina Witt, Cher, Whitney Houston and Nadja Auermann, who was honoured for "her international accomplishments as a model and her timeless elegance".
The event was hosted by Gorbachev himself. "Women have earned the right to be honoured," he said at the event’s opening. "I had the privilege of having an incredibly wonderful woman at my side. Without her I would never have been able to achieve as much in my career. I admire women, for they often have to deal with much more than men."
