American Idol judge Paula Abdul was sentenced to two years probation on Thursday. The singer was charged after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge of hit-and-run driving, court officials said according to MTV.com.
The light sentence means that Paula Abdul does not have report to a probation officer, but for any further law breaks she could face the higher fine and jail sentence.
The 42-year-old Abdul was ordered to pay $1 075 in fines and restitution to the other driver, whose name wasn't revealed in press. The former Los Angeles Lakers cheerleader did not appear in the court in LA , but sent her lawyer, Neil E. Meyer, who has made a statement quoted by nydailynews.com:
"Unbeknownst to Paula, there was some minor contact between the tire of her car and another vehicle on the roadway. Paula immediately took full responsibility."
The incident happened last year, December 20, about 15 miles from LA. The car, identified lately as Abdul's Mercedes, was changing lines without looking, It led to the fender-bender and fotunately nobody was hurt. The Mercedes driver did not stop, but the driver of the plaintiff's car used his cell phone's camera to make a snap shot of the car and its licence plate number.
