Moscow, which is trying to join the roster of fashion capitals like London, New York and Milan, is playing host to Russian Fashion Week, sponsored by international brands like Pantene, Motorola, Audi and Moet & Chandon. Organizer and producer Alexander Shumsky has unveiled a 3,000-square-meter mobile pavilion in the heart of the citys Park of Arts to house the shows. The RFW Pavilion boasts 2 light-proof tents, a press-room, and a bar, where designers can take a break from the shows busy atmosphere and have a snack.
The event, attracting a number of international guests and over 60 designers from Russia and former USSR, kicked off on October 22 and will showcase until October 30.
“Russian Fashion Week has more than doubled in the past two years,” says the show’s producer Aelexander Shumsky.
“Fashion Market is in rapid development. In addition to the luxury brands, which have always been appreciated in Moscow, local designers and emerging designers from other countries are now in demand. This is an exciting time for us all. Finally, the fashion world understands that Russia is a luxury market. The economy is booming, the cities are growing, the people are opening up and this all translates into business for international brands.”
Fashion expert, stylist and contributor to Italian Vogue , Dazed and Confused and The Face Arianne Phillips, Madonna’s personal stylist who created accessories and costumes for the singer’s Drowned World Tour and Re-Invention tours is expected to show up at RFW to meet the designers personally.
“The search for new ideas is my job. Russia has a very good reputation in this regard”, - says Phillips.
