Lux soap ads featuring Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker in a skin-revealing, spaghetti strap caused the ire of ultra-Orthodox Jews in Israel. Representatives of the religious community got offended by the sight of Parkers arms, back, shoulders and even a little thigh and demanded that billboards be covered up, reports Reuters. According to the local publication, one leading ultra-Orthodox rabbi contacted the distributor and warned that if the offending posters were not removed then the religious community would boycott the companys extensive product line.
The Israeli branch of consumer product group Unilever immediately took the complaint into consideration, pasting photos and dressing Parker in an uncharacteristically modest long-sleeve gown. Commenting the replacement of posters, a marketing manager for Unilever said jokingly: We decided to make her dress more suitable for the winter weather.
Meanwhile, in her emancipated home country, the fashionable star is working on the realization of a childhood dream, creating her own scent. So far the details of the project are secret, but Parkers husband Matthew Broderick has lifted the curtain a bit: Shes working on a perfume which shes been enjoying, he told the British Vogue. Shes picking scents and things. They give her all these potions and she loves it, and shapes for bottles, which I believe is going to be in the egg family. She really knows how to pick perfumes. She smells great.
