The star of the “Newlyweds” Jessica Simpson was scheduled to go onstage to perform her latest album promotion show “In the Skin,” but had to cancel her Tuesday concert in Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, due to illness. A spokeswoman at Columbia records Renee Pfefer announced that Simpson cancelled the show because of the kidney infection.

The news came after the Simpson's stage set had already been constructed and Simpson's band and crew were awaiting her arrival. The singer in currently under the doctor’s care and plans to resume her tour at the Verizon wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire on Wednesday.

"I'm having the best time doing this tour and I'm so disappointed that I have to miss tonight's show. I appreciate everyone's get-well wishes and, as soon as my doctor says it's okay, I'll be back on stage, doing what I love. I hope to see my fans in Rhode Island soon," Simpson says in a prepared statement.

The concert organizers plan to reschedule the performance. The dates for the make-up show haven’t been set yet, but those who have bought the tickets have been asked to keep them.

One of today's hottest pop stars, Jessica Simpson, has made it to the top of MAXIM HOT 100 this year. Her summer “Reality Tour” kicked off on June 4 in New Orleans and will conclude in Paso Robles,Calif. on August 1.
