After being convicted of grand theft and felony vandalism for stealing a thousands of dollars’ worth of designer’s clothes and accessories from Saks Fifth Avenue in 2002, Winona Rider had her shoplifting conviction reduced to misdemeanor. The judges originally gave her three years of probation and 480 hours of community service and ordered her to undergo psychological and drug counseling. The Oscar-winning actress also had to pay more than $10,000 in restitution and fines.
Now, that her sentence has been reduced, the actress will be able to complete her probation unsupervised, before it comes to an end in December 2005. Judge Elden Fox praised Winona Rider, for successfully completing her community service sentence but warned that she could go to jail if she breaks her probation before it comes to an end.
Winona Rider has made more than 30 movies, including Reality Bites, Girl, Interrupted and Edward Scissorhands, and has twice been nominated for Oscars - for best actress in 1995's Little Women and in 1993 for her supporting role in The Age of Innocence.
